1920s Antique Silk Bohemian Piano Shawl, Hand Embroidered Spanish "Manton de Manila" with a profusion of Fuschia flowers on an Ecru background and dramatic 18" long hand-knotted fringe.
The style is Manton de Manila, floral embroidery on ecru silk most likely dates from the 1920s to the early 1930s. The condition is very good - with a few pulls from normal age and wear. (see photos for the minor loose threads)
The Manila shawl (Spanish: mantón de Manila or mantón de seda) is an embroidered silk shawl derived from the Filipino pañuelo. They were popular in the Philippines, Latin America and Spain during the colonial era. It also became popular in European fashions in the 19th century. In Modern Times, it is still an aspect of various traditional clothing in Hispanic cultures, and is particularly prominent as part of the costume (traje de flamenca) of flamenco dancers (bailaoras) and Gitana women.
