This rare and lovely circle skirt made in black velvet with felt applique flowers and bold framed stripes is an absolute beauty! The skirt falls at mid length and has a larger waistline for the contemporary shape. Perfect for the whimsy in all of us with a touch of Pin-up style! In terms of 1950s clothing, the image that most often pops into mind is the poodle skirt. Most vintage collectors know Juli Lynne Charlot as the inventor and designer of some of the very best and most clever circle skirts to come out of the 1950s. Interestingly, they were born out of necessity – simple seamless patterns, easy to sew - and creativity with motifs that told whimsical stories added to the skirts using an appliqué process. It was the best way for this young singer, actress to pay her bills during a time when she did not know how to sew! By the time Charlot was 24, she had a clothing factory and 50 employees, and her skirts and coordinating garments were selling in exclusive department stores across the country.
