sold out
Aubrey Beardsley Graphic Black & White illustrated Dress
Materials: Polyester
Brand / Maker: Junior Accent
Era: 1960s
Ultra collectible Aubrey Beardsley dress! Done in a poly jersey and contrasting black piped neckline, waist, and back bow detail. The dress has a Back zipper and is Unlined. The bold illustration of the Beardsley print "Salome and the Peacock Skirt" is beautifully rendered both on the back and front sides of the skirt. The illustration is by the English artist/author Aubrey Vincent Beardsley b. 1872 - 1898.
Several exhibitions contributed Art Nouveau revival in the 1960s, but the Aubrey Beardsley at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London in 1966, was the most successful. Some say it was the beginning of an underground counterculture. Reproductions in various media of the most famous works of this artist flooded the market, whilst the psychedelic idiom continued to spread. Art Nouveau style had a great effect on advertising graphics and in the fashion industry at the time. Beardsley prints were re-produced in fabric by the yard and utilized by several manufacturers in unique garments such as this. The original print is held at the V&A Museum.
