1960s Bonnie Cashin for Ballantyne, Scottish Cashmere, Chartreuse & Cream stripe, Cowl Neck Top, Minimal Design
$200.00
sold out
Ballantyne by Bonnie Cashin Cashmere Cowl-neck designed especially for Trimingham's, Bermuda.
Materials: 100% Pure Cashmere. Pebbles, Scotland
Brand/Maker: by Ballantyne for Triminghams, Bermuda
Era: 1965
The appreciation of graphic design & architecture is evident in this subtle striped Bonnie Cashin cowl-neck pullover. This top was part of the 1965 spring collection for Ballentyne, and retailed at the time for $40. The micro stripe design is in sophisticated chartreuse and cream but was offered in several color combinations at the time. In beautiful condition the seamless neck and boxy inset sleeves are both comfortable and striking. Super soft fine gauge summer weight cashmere ensures that the garment is lightweight and comfortable. No flaws, discoloration or imperfections.
In the mid-1960s, Bonnie Cashin partnered with Ballantyne, a Scottish knitting company, producing body hugging, cowl neck, cashmere funnel sweaters, based on op art and African themes. After several years, in 1968, she broke the connection with Ballantyne, and formed The Knittery to produce and distribute her own knitted fashions, using the talents of hand knitters in Scotland and upstate New York.
As most avid Cashin collectors know in 1962, Bonnie Cashin became the sole designer for Miles and Lillian Cahn’s wallet and cigar case company: Coach; this influence is still seen in today's line.
