Description: This graphic statement skirt is long to the ankle and has the touch and feel of fine wool, but is actually fine acrylic. Dramatic Black Geometry on a gray ground is accented with red, gold and green. The effect is modern and implies action. The scottish architect Charles R. MacKintosh used similar abstraction in his work, as did Piet Mondrian who's artistic vocabulary was finally reduced to simple geometric elements. A very sophisticated garment!
The Label notes RP which is the reference name to Fibres Rhône-Poulenc. A division of Rhodiacéta of France chemical research and manufacturing company. Best known for their inroads in the pharmaceutical industry later merging with GlaxoSmithKline.
Note: In the beginning of the 1960's, the threads and fibers polyamide and polyester, used individually or blended, wove their way into most garments. Under licensing
agreements from the American company Du Pont de Nemours, Rhodiacéta of France (Rhone-Poulenc Textiles) makes the acrylic Crylor@ in France. These commercial trademarks remain familiar to us as a few well-known designs of the time can attest. Christian Dior, was one of the design houses fascinated by the newest fibers and created a velour evening dress made from a polyamide created by Du Pont de Nemours (1969).
