1960s MOD Umbrella, Wowza! Pucci-like Parasol, Made in Italy

Materials: Cotton, Steel, Wooden Handle

Brand / Maker: unknown

Era: 1960s

It’s not confirmed…but definitely shows vibes of MOD 1960s designer Emilio Pucci (just note the similarities with a certain Air Hostess’ Uniform of the times). Ours is brightly printed cotton, with a curved wooden handle and metal stays. Bold abstract geometric color, and MOD patterns. It is in very good condition and opens/closes well, with no rips or tears. It should be considered more of a parasol as it is not coated cotton and may not resist a heavy downfall. Such a wonderful example of groovy 60s style.

Pucci dressed the staff of Braniff Airlines in vibrant colors & kaleidoscopic designs. Their slogan boasted “The end of the plain plane. We don’t get you there any faster. It just seems that way.”

Braniff employed a platoon of airline eye candy, and Pucci created a layered uniform, including rain gear, umbrellas, boots & shoes, catsuits, and wrap skirts that all color-coordinated. We think ours looks very close!

FYI: This hostess uniform was called the Braniff Air Strip. It allowed “the girls” to remove/add one layer of clothing at a time during the flight!
