Rare and remarkable 60s Mermaid style metallic sheath dress! This unusual garment is made entirely of crochet scallop fish scale knitting, delicately affixed to fine sheer mesh for its form and structure. The crochet knit is entwined with silver metallic threads and specks of grey and black filament. Lined with a rayon slip that is integral to the design, nude in color so that it does not break the illusion that the dress is shimmering sheer and aquatic! Beautiful scalloped hemline to just below the knee (this dress would be easy to shorten to the scallop length desired). Custom made for the original owner it is fit for a Gala, gogo dancing, and cocktails in the Hollywood Hills! There is evidence of fine stitching repairs to the back left in the hip area where the mesh may have given way, this has been expertly repaired with clear thread and shows no evident signs of flaws when the fish scales are back in place (pls see photos). Beautiful garment very wearable - a collector's piece!
