Gorgeous Red Toile de Jouy Maxi Dress - Gunne Sax by Jessica. Rare design and fabric pattern, with dramatic panels of solid red down the front, cuffs, and tiered hem ruffles. The super charming pastoral fabric depicts medieval maidens, children, instruments, picnics, and a stone castle throughout. The dress has a plunging neckline and a high empire waist trimmed in a cream color eyelet lace. Featuring “Leg 'o Mutton” long sleeves, that are fitted with zip-up cuffs, a ruffled tier hem, and a zip closure.
Note: "The term "Toile de Jouy" originated in France in the late 18th century. In the French language, the phrase means "cloth from Jouy-en-Josas", a town in the southwest suburbs of Paris. Toiles were also very popular during the Colonial Era in the United States and are highly associated with preservationist towns and historical areas. When Williamsburg saw a resurgence in popularity in the 1930s, so did toiles, as they did again in the 1970s in celebration of the Bicentennial."
